Our Next Generation of Workers

Last week I was excited to attend the 2nd annual Midway Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Summit. The theme this year was talking about the next generation of workers in the Midway.   The next generation of workers will be more urban and more diverse.

In Minnesota today, 1 out of 5 children under 4 have at lease one immigrant parent.   That's amazing. Successful companies will need to embrace ethnic and cultural diversity.  Minnesota's foreign born population has tripled since 1990, growing faster than the national average.

The millennial workers - our youngest generation working born 1982-2000 - want their company to be engaged in the community.  They want meaningful jobs that contribute to the company and to society.  They also are concerned about commuting and prefer locations that have transit options.   Maybe it's because they watched their parents suffer with long commute times!  Millennials are more likely to live in the urban core and more likely to lease their homes instead of purchasing them.

Managing and preparing for change is important to our area's success.  The summit offered a lot of amazing information and a chance to ask a lot of questions.  Thanks Midway Chamber!!

Update Company's Stand on Central Corridor Light Rail

Light Rail is Coming - Midtown Commons is Ready For many years, we've heard about light rail - the possibilities and the potential disruptions - for our tenants and our company. When a big project like this comes, you can get involved or bury your head in the sand. We have chosen to get involved in the dialog and give our input into the upcoming project. Light rail will affect our five buildings at Midtown Commons 2314, 2324, 2334 University, 2300 Myrtle and 700 Raymond. The Raymond LRT Station will be built in front of our buildings. We don't know the timeline, but it will be built between 2011 and 2014. We will lose about 12 on street parking spaces in front of our buildings We will be assessed for streetscape improvements - estimated at over $ 30,000 The good news is this: We're ready for the rail and up to the challenge. We have maximized our parking lots and maintained a parking permit system that will help us manage the loss of on street spaces. We are continuing t...

Developments continue in Raymond/University Despite COVID

More apartments are planned for 2225 University Avenue (next to the McDonald's)  This is the former site of Paster Enterprises office building.  We are excited to see more density for the neighborhood and more residents to support our local restaurants and retail.

Platform Apartments Really Taking Shape!

The construction site is very busy at University and Hampden where the Platform Apartments are under construction.  This is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood - replacing two blighted buildings - turning the corner into a beautiful place to live.   A roof top patio will be a great amenity, as will the underground parking lot.   We are excited for our new neighbors to move in this fall.  St. Anthony Park is really growing - adding many new neighbors close to University.  Hopefully this development will bring a new restaurant!
