Update Company's Stand on Central Corridor Light Rail

Light Rail is Coming - Midtown Commons is Ready

For many years, we've heard about light rail - the possibilities and the potential disruptions - for our tenants and our company. When a big project like this comes, you can get involved or bury your head in the sand. We have chosen to get involved in the dialog and give our input into the upcoming project.

Light rail will affect our five buildings at Midtown Commons
2314, 2324, 2334 University, 2300 Myrtle and 700 Raymond.
  • The Raymond LRT Station will be built in front of our buildings.
  • We don't know the timeline, but it will be built between 2011 and 2014.
  • We will lose about 12 on street parking spaces in front of our buildings
  • We will be assessed for streetscape improvements - estimated at over $ 30,000

The good news is this:

We're ready for the rail and up to the challenge.

  • We have maximized our parking lots and maintained a parking permit system that will help us manage the loss of on street spaces.
  • We are continuing to work on purchasing additional property around Midtown Commons because we believe the area around the Raymond Station will continue to grow.
  • We are committed to making sure all our tenants will have adequate information when the construction begins. We will have information sessions for our tenants as well as links to Met Council construction information on our website.
  • Jack McCann has been working with the University Avenue Business Association to work for business mitigation funds and parking replacement to help the entire avenue.
  • Sandy Jacobs has worked with the Raymond Station area plan and the committee planning the artwork for the Raymond Station.
We encourage all our tenants and neighbors to get involved and keep informed. If you have questions, please contact Update Company - we'll be glad to talk to you.

  1. Despite the inconvenience of the construction, adding light rail to the University Avenue corridor is the best thing that could possibly happen to Midway area businesses.

Developments continue in Raymond/University Despite COVID

More apartments are planned for 2225 University Avenue (next to the McDonald's)  This is the former site of Paster Enterprises office building.  We are excited to see more density for the neighborhood and more residents to support our local restaurants and retail.

Congratulations to Dave Anderson!

One of Update Company's long time tenants is awarded a Bush Fellowship.  Dave Anderson, from All Parks Alliance for Change is one of the 2020 Bush Fellows, 24 visionary leaders who are thinking big about how to solve problems and shape a better future for their communities. The Bush Fellowship is an investment in individual leaders. It provides Fellows with up to $100,000 over 12 to 24 months to pursue formal and informal learning experiences that help them develop the skills, attributes and relationships they need to become more effective, equitable leaders who can drive change in their communities and region as a whole. The Fellowship is distinctive in its flexibility, allowing Fellows to articulate what they need to become more effective and agile leaders.

Platform Apartments Really Taking Shape!

The construction site is very busy at University and Hampden where the Platform Apartments are under construction.  This is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood - replacing two blighted buildings - turning the corner into a beautiful place to live.   A roof top patio will be a great amenity, as will the underground parking lot.   We are excited for our new neighbors to move in this fall.  St. Anthony Park is really growing - adding many new neighbors close to University.  Hopefully this development will bring a new restaurant!
